Active RFID Systems, Inc. and Broadcom Corporation to Develop WiFi-enabled RFID Asset-tracking Tag February 24 2006

February 24, 2006, EVERGREEN, CO –- Active RFID Systems, Inc. (ARS), a leading provider of battery-powered Radio Frequency and Infrared Supply Chain Management Systems for Total Asset Tracking, In-Transit Visibility, Security, and Data Networking over all mobile devices., and Broadcom, Inc., a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications are collaborating in the development and sales of a WiFi (802.11.b/g)-enabled Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag that will be used to track assets directly in a WiFi Network Enterprise System. The new tag offers many years of battery life and is interoperable with existing WiFi networks.

Under the terms of the agreement, ARS will incorporate the Broadcom chipset into this WiFi tag and will manufacture and support the finished tag product. Broadcom will support the hardware, firmware and software activities.

“Active RFID Systems is pleased to offer an energy-efficient radio system, 802.11 interoperable, based on a low-cost product from Broadcom,” said ARS founder and CEO Tony Corrado.  “The extensive operating knowledge and optional capabilities offered by Broadcom ensure seamless system integration for all users.”

ARS tags, readers, triggers, software and services deliver unmatched performance, flexibility, and process change-enabling tools across entire enterprise requirements . They provide timely and accurate information on the location, movement, status, and identity of units, personnel, equipment, materiel and supplies, enabling you to act upon that information to improve overall logistic practices and achieve Total Asset and In-Transit Visibility.

ARS solutions feature dual mode Infrared (IR)-RF capabilities, direct sunlight operation, tag-compatibility with metallic and liquid-filled items, data logging and sensing capabilities (temperature, humidity sensing, g-shock, acceleration, pressure), high selectivity (1:1) and batch-read capabilities, operating parameter control via IR, a fully enabled search and locate mode of operation, and PDA/PDT data-writing capabilities.

Operating at frequencies of 433.92 MHz and 2.45 GHz, all ARS tags are certifiable intrinsically safe. In addition, the tags are equipped with a ‘silent' function, allowing them to remain fully operational during military field or aircraft transit.

ARS' TAV/ITV solutions facilitate dramatic reduction in manufacturing process downtime, in-process waiting time, shipping location errors and shrinkage, while improving item-aggregation and delivery routing time, location correct warehousing and assessment of liabilities.

Active RFID Systems, Inc. will be exhibiting its family of Easy-Trak Active RF-Infrared Asset Tracking products during RFID World 2006, from February 27-March 1 at Booth # 1132.
